Privacy and Security

Last updated on Oct 09, 2025

We are engineers with over two decades of experience in software development, computer networks, and developer operations. We have worked on privacy and decentralisation projects, designing systems where respect for user privacy is a MUST. Designing and building such software for ourselves and others, we ensure that all features have the best available privacy settings.

While AI companies have policies for privacy and user data processing, processing sensitive and private information via AI platforms should be discouraged. The technological safeguards may be in place, but those may also be disabled as a result of a lack of ethics, political interference, or a cybersecurity breach. Sensitive data may be accessed without your explicit authorization. We encourage you to limit your personal, mental, or physical health information. Sensitive work information, intellectual property, and especially children's data should not be exposed to AI systems.

Awee Desktop stores data locally. It will never send any of your data to our cloud for any purpose other than processing of your AI request. We will continue to improve our privacy and security features, keeping the main features usable and performant.

For people wanting to run local AI models, this is done through our Ollama integration.

Read our local and private model guide how to set it up.

We will look for ways to make use of various models for children and senior safe application modes. The incredible modern AI technology can assist people in vast learning experiences and productivity or self improvement goals, and we intend to build on that.

Awee Desktop

This page will document all of the external destinations our applications are making to our networks. We are firm believers that no internet traffic should be sent from your devices unless necessary or extremely useful so traffic between Awee Desktop and AI providers is established directly between your device and AI provider network.

Some features are designed to synchronise with our cloud to update your local installation. In case our services aren't available or you have configured your network to block them, Awee Desktop should continue to function, but without up-to-date pricing calculation or the ability to send logs and metrics.

Our cloud is offering an Awee AI service for users not wanting to sign up to the AI providers themselves. In this case, us being the intermediary - we will conform to data processing laws.

We will list the AI providers we integrate out of the box and best effort information on how to configure and isolate Awee in a personal home or a tightly secured environment. Data exchanged between Awee Desktop and the world must be configurable by the user.

Awee Desktop collects various usage metrics, which are primitive and anonymised. We will never collect personal data or anything sensitive like AI conversation details or automation input/output.

Our goal is to to know how well our application performs, how to quickly fix issues and what's popular.

Operating System integration

Awee Desktop stores AI provider API keys and other sensitive data in Operating System's native secure storage. On macOS it's Keychain Access, on Windows it's Windows Credential Manager. We ensure that we only use that data whenever necessary and then quickly remove it from memory.

Logging and directories

Awee Desktop produces application logs for our team to be able to investigate and resolve user issues.
Logs are always kept on your devices, but when resolving a technical issue we may ask you to send them to us to so the engineers can investigate.

To send logs, Awee Desktop has a built-in button to do it. Look under Help to find it.

Model information

Awee Desktop periodically pulls and updates AI model information like pricing, parameters and features to ensure the best possible user experience and transparent pricing between you and any AI provider.

Licensing and accounts

Awee Desktop's licensing feature connects to our servers to check licensing information, therefore our licensing service collects some of your device's hardware identifiers to ensure fair use and give you control over device management.

Account login is only required to fetch and download a license locally. Once it's done, as long as the license persists in your Operating System's secure storage, you do not have to be logged in.

In-app live chat support is only available to logged in users.
